Safe Housing In a Dangerous World

Safe Housing In a Dangerous World

We’ve all seen refugee camps that do their best to house displaced refugees with tents to provide shelter from harsh conditions and privacy in a sea of people. It’s hard to see people living in such temporary and flimsy shelters.

Now, there is a modular shelter available called “Better Shelter” that has a steel foundation, a roof with ventilation, a solar panel plus a door and window. The shelter is big enough for a family of five and provides sustainable lighting through a solar panel. It protects people from harsh weather conditions, allows for privacy and security. Best yet, it provides some semblance of a home.

The provider of these shelters is Better Shelter.org whose mission is to create and produce innovative housing solutions for persons displaced by armed conflicts and natural disasters.

Better Shelter has teamed up with the U.N. refugee agency UNHCR and the IKEA Foundation to use the shelters in the countries where refugees need them the most, such as Iraq, South Sudan and Iraq (to name a few).
