Every Kid Can Be a Scientist with Virtual Reality

Every Kid Can Be a Scientist with Virtual Reality

There’s tremendous change happening in education but the most exciting and promising switch has to do with the technology of virtual reality.

An expert in the field, Stanford’s University Jeremy Bailenson, recently wrote in a BIG Think article that “virtual reality will make every kid capable of being a scientist”.  Why? Well, it may not be what you would expect to hear about a technology. It’s because of the way virtual reality makes us feel. Bailenson explains how “well-designed virtual reality programs boost kids’ intellectual confidence and show students who think they’re not science-minded, just how capable they truly are”.

Think about it, students could experience careers first hand. Say you are considering being a jet pilot, put on your virtual reality headset and experience the reality of being in a cockpit of of supersonic jet plane. Medical students can safely learn how to perform an operation. Imagine learning about empathy by stepping into someone else’s shoes on the other side of the world.. For the education sector, virtual reality is an opportunity to finally connect with both learners and teachers in a meaningful way. Talk about subject immersion  – virtual reality provides it.

The global organization VR/AR Association (virtual reality/augmented reality) are convinced that the cost of quality virtual headsets will come down from the current $399 price to $199 which their research indicates is the point for mass adoption. Content – specific for each use case – is steadily being created, developed and introduced to the marketplace.

Quality virtual reality is going to change the way we are taught and how we learn. The real-world applications are limitless for bringing the love of learning to the classroom. We could see our kids soar academically in the future with virtual reality.
