Artificially Created Meat
Scientists, as well as businesses, have been working on a way to produce lab-created meat. Many advocates of this process claim the lab-created meat will actually be healthier for you, and more environmentally friendly, than the conventional meant. For many people, this sounds a little repulsive, but there can be substantial benefits so it may be worth reading about.
There has actually been a substantial amount of progress made with producing this lab-created meat. In August 2013, a Dutch team of scientists produced a lab-grown burger and was even able to provide a taste test. The downside to this burger was the price tag – which was $330,000. Just two months ago, an American company named Memphis Meats fried the first-ever lab meatball. Again, this price tag for those meatballs was a whopping $18,000 per pound. For those who have tasted these products, they actually claim there is only a slight difference in the taste.
According to these companies and others working on these products, these lab-produced meats will start to show up in supermarkets and restaurants. These products will be labeled as “cultured meat”, rather than lab-produced meats as to have a better appeal.
While the scientists behind these creations say that the environmental impacts of these meat products will be substantial, an environmental engineer at Arizona State University claims it is too soon to tell what exactly those benefits will be.
