The latest victim of Florida’s school shooting may be the one who has been the most viciously maligned for not stopping the killing spree – Scot Peterson, the school’s resource officer. There has been a national outcry against Peterson who is now labeled a coward – the worst possible insult for an officer. But what if Peterson had been told by Broward County Sheriff’s department to “stand down?” In fact, three other sheriff’s deputies also waited behind their vehicles while Nikolas Cruz killed 17 people inside the school. Recent interviews with Broward County Sheriff, Scott Israel, are revealing some gaps in the Sheriff’s recall of what his instructions were to his officers and he dodges the question of whether officers had been told to stand down. Meanwhile, Officer Peterson no longer has a job and is receiving death threats on his own life. Guilty as charged or did we jump too quick to label Peterson a coward? Could he
another “victim” of the killing spree?
