Am I my brother’s keeper? Another house of horrors—this one discovered in Perris, California brings this question to mind. A former engineer and his wife allegedly tortured and chained their children, as well as allegedly nearly starved them for years, until one daughter managed to break away earlier this week and called 911. The parents are now charged with multiple felonies and reporters–looking for details to this story– are quick to question neighbors asking why the neighbors didn’t see or do something earlier. To what extent are we our brothers’ keeper, and secondly, how exactly are we our brothers’ keeper?

No  cable news in gyms? Some gyms and fitness centers across America have decided to pull the plug on cable news in their clubs. If you’re used to a treadmill that offers cable news from FOX, CNN and MSNBC, you might not be able to be informed through these sources while sweating. Life time Fitness says “no more” and some members are not happy about it. Instead they get to watch other programming such as the Cooking Channel, Home Improvement, or health and fitness programming substitutes. Is this a good move on
the part of a fitness club?

Interview: Dr. Albert Pang, OD, Optometrist – Trinity Eye Care. Topic: More and more research shows the digital age is producing eye strain, chronic dry eye, and migraines. Research is also showing that tea is a helpmate to saving your eyesight—not coffee (dang).

China wants poverty eradicated by 2020 with government assistance but there’s one catch . . . your choice of religion has to be the communist state. Your order is to take down pictures of Jesus and hang Party Chairman’ Xi Jinping instead. If not, forget about cash in your coffers from the “poverty-relief” fund.  In an impoverished province of southeast China, heavily populated by Christians, a local
social media account reported officials had successfully “melted the hard ice in their hearts” and “transformed them from believing in religion to believing in the party”. That one’s belief system has to be wrapped around the state party is pretty standard in any Communist country. The larger concern is that the practice to demand citizens hang the Chairman’s photo in your living room chillingly reminds
us of the personality cult that surrounded the late chairman Mao Zedong.  In fact, Chairman’s Xi’s recently modified his official image to look more like the famous head-shot of Mao. China is the most populated country in the world with 1.3 BILLION citizens. Should Americans be worried with Chairman Xi in charge?
