Since 1940, North Korea has had hard-line communism, influenced from the then-Soviet Union. NK also believes in “juche” or self-reliance. When the Soviet Union collapsed, juche became the primary ideology in NK. It prescribes a program of extreme nationalism, an autonomous state-run command economy, a cult of personality in the Kim dictatorships, and self-reliance in its defense. Given this background, why would North Korea bother with diplomacy?
Mexico City leaders decide to install a “penis subway seat” to remind passengers about the reality of sexual harassment. This subway seat has the look and indentations on the seat itself to resemble the shape of a naked man’s body, including the penis. If one sits on the seat, it is uncomfortable and a reminder of what women experience when physically harassed on public transportation. But do you think this kind of public information messaging will work in the long run? See the public service video here: https://www.nytimes.com/2017/03/31/world/americas/penis-seat-mexico-city- harassment.html

A financially strapped 75-year old woman, who tried to sell a paperweight that contained tiny moon rock in it, has decided to sue NASA. She’s the widow of an Apollo engineer and the rightful owner of the specimen. When she tried to sell it legally (asking NASA first for advice as to how), she later became part of a sting operation against her. The sting included being frisked for weapons, and humiliation after she urinated on herself while being detained without opportunity to a restroom. Suing the federal government is difficult. Do you think she can prevail?
